Paige Vandenberg joined Geenen & Kolean as an intern in January 2023. She is a Junior at Hope College with a dual major in Business and Public Accounting, looking to pursue her CPA after school. Paige is from Fremont, Michigan and graduated from Fremont High School. Although she has enjoyed her time here at GK, Paige is looking forward to summer for some warm weather and sunshine!
Q: What made you decide to intern at Geenen & Kolean?
A: Geenen & Kolean offered a unique tax internship opportunity where I could continue to take classes while getting to experience tax season at a CPA firm. I got to meet Josh and Andy at a meet the firm’s event at Hope College and they presented GK as a place that would be flexible with my student schedule, I was going to learn a ton, and it was going to be a fun place to work. That was exactly what I was looking for!
Q: What did you hope to gain from your internship experience?
A: I was hoping to learn more about accounting and gain real world experience doing tax work. I also wanted to get insight into the office atmosphere during the busy tax season and understand better what that could look like for me after college.
Q: Did you enjoy your internship experience?
A: Absolutely! The people at GK are what I think made all the difference. Coming in with little to no knowledge of tax work, I was able to learn so much through many different people taking the time to teach me and answer my questions. The social environment here also just made it easy to talk to everyone and made my whole internship experience a fun time.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I enjoy staying active and being outside. I participate in intramural sports like flag football, ultimate frisbee, and coed basketball. Anything outdoors like hiking, camping, going to the beach, or sitting around a bonfire is all stuff I enjoy doing. Of course, I also love being social and spending time with friends and family.
