Last week the IRS issued IR-2016-143 reminding employers that the filing deadline for Form W-2’s has changed. The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, which was enacted last December, changes the employer filing deadline to January 31. In the past, employers had until the end of February or end of March, to send in the W-2’s to the Social Security Administration, depending on their circumstances. This change drastically shortens the time in which employers have to prepare and file these returns, so make sure to plan ahead.
To learn more, you can read IR-2016-143. Please contact us if you have any questions. If you’re a client of our firm and we process your W-2’s, you’ll be receiving a letter from us in the next few weeks. Please fill out the information and return it to us as soon as possible.
